Difference Between Snapdragon 765G and 865 5G - Which is better?

Hello, I am SOUMITRA and welcome to our PRODUCT2U. In this blog, we are going to talk about the main differences between Snapdragon 865 and 765G processor chips. Both 865 and 765G processors were designed to provide: 5G connectivity, improved performance, and better image processing in mobile phones.

We have seen that 865 processor has already being used in Samsung Galaxy S20 and Xiaomi Black Shark 3 due to its support for 5G, sizzling performance, and a powerful GPU. However, Snapdragon 865 is quite expensive. But when it comes to Snapdragon 765G processor, so it is less expensive, and it also supports 5G. Though 765G is cheaper than 865, it doesn't mean that it is not good in performance.

Google and LG have already announced that they will use Snapdragon 765G in their 2020 flagship phones. So what major or main key differences between the Snapdragon 865 and 765G processors? Let's have a look. If we look at the CPU performances, Snapdragon 865 has a clear advantage over the 765G.

Snapdragon 865 5G Chip comes with one core of Kryo 585 Prime Cortex-A77 at 2.84GHz of speed, three cores of Kryo 585 Gold Cortex-A77 at 2.4GHz of speed, and four cores of Kryo 585 Silver Cortex-A55 at 1.8GHz of speed. On the other side, the Snapdragon 765G comes with one core of Prime Kryo 475 Cortex-A76 at 2.4GHz, one core of Kryo 475 Gold Cortex-A76 at 2.2GHz and six cores of Kryo 475 Silver Cortex-A55 at 1.8GHz. So 865 has higher clock speeds and advanced cores as compared to 765G, and it will not be wrong if we say that 865 processor is better for the high-end gaming.

Snapdragon 865 and 765G support 5G, but when it comes to the integration, both the chips follow different integration methods. The Snapdragon 765G has its 5G modem integrated within the actual chip itself. But 865 requires a separate installation of 5G modem off-board. Typically, 765G has more power efficiency because everything is placed on a single board, and due to this fact, it posses less pressure on battery life.

But as I mentioned earlier, SD 865 has better processing power, and it requires separate modem installation, so it can deliver faster 5G speed. The 865 uses Qualcomm's latest GPU, which is the Adreno 650 GPU. This will provide full support for Qualcomm's Elite Gaming features, higher clock speeds, and Desktop Forward Rendering. But 765G uses The Adreno 620 GPU, which is still a decent GPU. But it drops some of the more advanced features that you get in Adreno 650. So, If you are into mobile gaming and like to use heavy apps on your phone, then 865 is again a clear winner here.

The 865 processor runs the most advanced ISP that is called the Spectra 480 ISP to capture and process the images quickly and efficiently. But on the other side, the Snapdragon 765G runs older ISP that is called Spectra 355 ISP. The most important advantage the Spectra 480 ISP has over the Spectra 355 is its speed of processing images and data – it can handle up to 2 Gigapixels per second. Additionally, the Spectra 480 ISP in 865 chip supports 8K video recording, Dolby Vision video capture, lens up to 64MP, and it can capture 200MP photos.

The 765G will support 8K video, but it is not fast as 865. It is not fully supportable to handle higher megapixel images or video in the same way as Spectra 480 does. Both the chips 765G and 865 have Artificial Intelligence and machine learning capability. However, there are small differences in how both chipsets execute and handle AI and machine learning features. The 865 chipset uses the Qualcomm's 5th generation AI Engine, which can deliver 15 Tera Operations Per Second. The AI uses in 865 is powered by Qualcomm's Hexagon Tensor Accelerator, which is 4 times powerful and 35% more power-efficient than the older AI versions. Which means The Hexagon Tensor Accelerator makes real-time language translation is a reality. You can easily translate your voiceover into the text or get it translated into another language. It also guarantees better voice recognition.

So it is pretty clear that 865 chipset is winning the battle against 765G processor chip in most of the cases. Though it doesn't mean that 765G is not a good processor, it is less expensive which also support 5G feature.
