Twitter Hack: Hackers Saw Direct Messages of 36 Accounts
1. Twitter reports that hackers read private messages from 36 private accounts
2. Twitter previously said the attackers tweeted from 45 "verified" accounts
3. Twitter has not clarified whether any users of the 36 accounts are verified
Twitter said on Wednesday that hackers had breached its system last week, possibly reading direct messages from 36 accounts, including that of a functionary within the Netherlands.
In his support account and tweets in an updated blog post, Twitter said it had no indication of receiving a non-public message from the other functionary.
Earlier, Twitter said the attackers tweeted from 45 "verified" accounts named after CEOs Elon Musk and entrepreneur and former vice-chairman Joe Biden.
Asked by Reuters if the 36 accounts where the message may are included a verified account, Twitter said it might not respond.
In general, anyone with the flexibility to tweet from an account is going to be ready to read previously sent or received messages that haven't been deleted.
This will probably make it clear that several celebrities around the world had private messages still read by hackers. The FBI is investigating the case from its city office.
Twitter has previously said that the attackers downloaded mass data from eight accounts, none of including celebrities, officials, and a few media outlets verified with blue checks.
The download tool doesn't provide access to Twitter messages, a spokesman said.
For the accounts they gained access to, the agency said hackers were ready to see phone numbers and email addresses, not previous passwords.
